Recycling of Commercial Packaging
The recycling of commercial packaging waste is one of the key drivers of the new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program dedicated to commercial packaging.
One goal: turning waste into resources
Léko Pro works to ensure that all commercial packaging, once used, follows a controlled process: sorting, collection, preparation, recycling, and reintegration of materials into new production cycles.
This approach helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills or incinerators, recover recyclable materials (cardboard, plastics, metals, glass, wood), and secure resources by stimulating local industrial recycling sectors.
Ambitious Goals for 2030
In accordance with the European PPWR Regulation, France has set ambitious recycling targets for commercial packaging:
| Material | Goal for 2028 | 2030 Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Paper and Cardboard | 75 % | 85 % |
| Plastics | 50 % | 55 % |
| Steel | 70 % | 80 % |
| Aluminum | 50 % | 60 % |
| Glass | 70 % | 75 % |
| Wood | 25 % | 30 % |
These results will be achieved through comprehensive traceability of waste streams, support for recycling operators, and the development of efficient recycling systems across the region.
Concrete courses of action
To achieve these goals, Léko Pro is implementing several strategies:
Technical standards for sorting and recycling tailored to professional practices
Digital traceability through its MyLéko tool to ensure data reliability and transparency in supply chains
Financial support provided to operators and recyclers to encourage local recycling
Stronger partnerships with local governments, businesses, and waste management stakeholders
Support for marketers in eco-design and the incorporation of recycled materials
A Priority: Industrial Plastics
Plastic packaging remains the main challenge.
Léko Pro focuses its efforts on establishing dedicated recycling streams, standardizing the most commonly used resins, and developing solutions for films, covers, and complex packaging.
A subsidy for the incorporation of recycled plastic will be introduced starting in 2027 to promote the circular economy.
Toward a High-Performance and Sustainable Industry
By promoting separate collection, ensuring easy access to drop-off points, and recovering materials, the recycling of commercial packaging waste helps reduce CO₂ emissions, create jobs in the circular economy, and conserve natural resources. Through coordination among industry stakeholders, Léko Pro is building an efficient, transparent, and sustainable system that serves businesses and supports the ecological transition.
By bringing together producers, operators, and local governments, Léko Pro is making the recycling of commercial packaging a tangible driver of the ecological transition.
